How to Disable Distortion Effects In Minecraft | Accessibility for Photosensitivity
How to disable nausea or Nether portal distortion effects in Minecraft if you suffer from photosensitivity or motion sickness.
While watching @ArchetypusMC's Minecraft stream, we got to talking about photosensitivity in videogames and we both mentioned that the distortion effect that happens when you're afflicted with the nausea status effect in Minecraft or when you travel through a Nether portal is one of the effects in the game that tend to bother our respective conditions. For some players, these distortion effects could cause headaches, eye strain, disorientation, vertigo, or trigger symptoms such as seizures or migraine.
As a gamer with photosensitive epilepsy, I often have to modify game settings to improve my gameplay experience. Thankfully these days, more developers such as Mojang are including accessibility settings in their games to help gamers with disability customize their gameplay experience. If you are a disabled gamer and find yourself struggling with certain games, take a look at the settings and see if there's anything that can help.
In this video, I'll show you how to decrease the intensity of distortion effects in Minecraft or how to disable them entirely. Learning how to disable the nausea effect in Minecraft or how to decrease the intensity of the Nether portal effect can help make the game more accessible to gamers with epilepsy or gamers with migraine.
Unfortunately, this accessibility setting is only available in Minecraft 1.16.2 and newer, so it won't help if you're playing an older version of Minecraft.
