How to Disable Steam Virtual Keyboard for PS4, PS5, Xbox Controllers
no brackets
To disable the Steam virtual keyboard for PS4, PS5, or Xbox controllers, follow these steps:
Open Steam. Launch the Steam client on your computer.
Enter Big Picture Mode. Click the Big Picture button in the top-right corner, which looks like a rectangle with two arrows, or go to View, then Big Picture Mode.
Go to Settings. In Big Picture Mode, navigate to the gear icon, Settings, in the top-right corner and select it.
Select Controller Settings. Scroll to Controller on the left-hand menu and click it.
Edit Desktop Configuration. Choose Base Configurations or Desktop Configuration, depending on your Steam version. Select your connected controller, PS4, PS5, or Xbox, and click Edit or Configure.
Remove the Keyboard Shortcut. Find the button mapped to Show Keyboard, commonly the left stick click, L3, or similar. Click on that binding, then select Remove or clear the command to disable it.
Apply Changes. Save your changes by clicking Apply or OK, then exit the configuration menu.
Exit Big Picture Mode. Press Alt+Enter or use the exit option to return to the regular Steam interface.
This process removes the virtual keyboard trigger from your controller’s desktop configuration, which applies when using the controller outside of specific game profiles. If the issue persists in a particular game, you may need to check that game’s controller configuration in Steam as well. Go to Library, right-click the game, select Properties, then Controller, and ensure Use Steam Input is enabled or disabled as needed, depending on your preference.
