How to See if your Computer has Been Hacked on Windows 11 (Fix Hacked PC)
Here’s the guide without brackets for checking if your Windows 11 computer has been hacked:
1. Check for Unusual Behavior
Look for sudden slowdowns, crashes, or freezes, which could mean malware or unauthorized processes.
Watch for unfamiliar programs running, pop-ups, or browser redirects.
Notice if there’s excessive data usage or unknown network connections, suggesting remote access.
2. Inspect Task Manager
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
Go to the Processes tab and look for suspicious processes using high CPU, memory, or network resources. Random names like "xxyyzz.exe" or unfamiliar apps are warning signs.
Right-click any odd process and select Open File Location to see where it’s running from. Legitimate Windows files are usually in C:\Windows\System32.
3. Check Startup Programs
In Task Manager, go to the Startup Apps tab.
Look for unfamiliar programs set to launch at startup. Disable anything odd by right-clicking and selecting Disable.
4. Review Network Connections
Open Command Prompt as Administrator and type: netstat -ano
This lists active connections. Look for unfamiliar IP addresses or ports. Match the Process ID, or PID, to programs in Task Manager.
5. Use Windows Security
Open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Windows Security, and select Virus & Threat Protection.
Run a Full Scan to detect malware or suspicious files. If anything shows up, quarantine or remove it as prompted.
Check Protection History for recent actions or threats.
6. Check User Accounts
Go to Settings, then Accounts, then Other Users.
Ensure no unfamiliar accounts exist. In Command Prompt, type: net user
This lists all accounts. Look for ones you didn’t create.
7. Inspect Event Viewer
Press Win + X and select Event Viewer.
Navigate to Windows Logs, then Security. Look for failed login attempts, Event ID 4625, or successful logins, Event ID 4624, at strange times.
Filter for errors or warnings that might show tampering.
8. Check Installed Programs
Go to Settings, then Apps, then Installed Apps.
Look for software you don’t recognize. Uninstall anything suspicious.
9. Monitor Firewall Settings
Open Windows Security, then Firewall & Network Protection.
Ensure the firewall is on. Click Advanced Settings to review inbound and outbound rules for unauthorized changes.
10. Update and Reset if Needed
Ensure Windows 11 is updated via Settings, then Windows Update, then Check for Updates.
If you suspect a hack, back up files and reset via Settings, then System, then Recovery, then Reset this PC. Choose Remove everything for a fresh start.
