How to Delete Virus from Windows 11 PC (Easy Method)
5Here’s how to delete a virus from a Windows 11 PC using Windows Security and the Malicious Software Removal Tool (MRT) without any brackets:
Disconnect from the internet by turning off Wi-Fi or unplugging your Ethernet cable to stop the virus from spreading.
Restart your PC in Safe Mode to limit the virus’s activity. To do this, restart your computer, interrupt the boot process twice by briefly pressing the power button, and on the third restart, you’ll enter the Recovery Environment. Navigate to Troubleshoot, then Advanced options, then Startup Settings, and click Restart. Press 4 or F4 for Safe Mode.
Open Windows Security by pressing Win + S, typing Windows Security, and hitting Enter. Go to Virus & threat protection, then click Quick scan to check common areas. For a thorough check, select Scan options, choose Full scan, and click Scan now. If threats are found, select Quarantine or Remove, then restart your PC.
If the virus is still there, use Windows Security’s offline scan. Go back to Virus & threat protection, select Scan options, choose Microsoft Defender Offline scan, and click Scan now. Your PC will restart and scan outside the main system. Follow the prompts to remove any threats.
Next, use the Malicious Software Removal Tool. Press Win + S, type MRT, and hit Enter. In the MRT window, click Next, then choose Full scan for a complete check. Click Next again to start the scan. If it finds anything, follow the prompts to remove it, then click Finish.
Reconnect to the internet and update both tools. In Windows Security, go to Virus & threat protection, then Virus & threat protection updates, and click Check for updates. For MRT, it updates automatically when you run it, but ensure your system is updated via Settings, Windows Update, Check for updates.
Restart your PC again to ensure the virus is gone.
