Luckily, in this video, we show you exactly how to download Optifine on your Mac, how to install Opitifine for Minecraft on MacOS, and how to play Minecraft with Optifine on a Mac. We eve go over some of the common issues and problems you may have when trying to use Optifine on a Mac. So, without anymore delay, here is how to get Optifine for MacOS!
First things first, we will need to download Optifine. You can find a link to download Optifine in the description above. That will actually take you to our website. Here, you will find a complete text tutorial for install Optifine on MacOS. However, once you are here, scroll down and click green ‘Download Optifine’ button. You will then be taken to Optifine’s official download page. On the Optifine download page, find the version of Optifine you want and click the ‘Mirror’ link next to it. This will take you to that Optifine version’s download page where you can click the blue/purple download button to start downloading Optifine for MacOS.
When you have Optifine downloaded, we need to get it installed. To do this, double click on Optifine. If you get an error that there is no Java RunTime Environment, then, you will need to download and install Java on your Mac using the link in the description above. That is a must have if you want to play Minecraft with Optifine, so if you don’t have it, go install it.
Otherwise, if you do have Java, you will get an error saying that Optifine is not form a trusted developer. To fix this, open up system preferences, click Security & Privacy, and click general. Then, at the bottom of this tab, you will see an option to open Optifine for Mac anyway. Do this, and you will get another warning. Confirm, and finally, Optifine for MacOS will open. To install it, just click the ‘install’ button on the window that opens up. Optifine will the install on your Mac.
You aren’t completely finished though. You now need to open up the Minecraft Launcher, click the little arrow next to the play button, select Optifine, and click play. Confirm you are playing modded Minecraft by clicking Play again, and Minecraft will open on your Mac with Optifine installed. You can now go to video settings and see all of Optifine’s MacOS features from increasing render distance to adding shaders to improve performance.
