First things first, we need to download the 1.18.2 Minecraft server files. You can find a link in the description above that will actually take you to our text tutorial for starting a Minecraft 1.18.2 server. Once you are on this page, scroll down and click the green ‘Download Minecraft’ button. That will take you to the server files download for Minecraft 1.18.2. Once you are there, click ‘minecraft_server.1.18.2.jar’ link. When you do, the server.jar file for Minecraft 1.18.2 servers will start downloading. You will need to keep or save this file depending on your browser.
With your server.jar file downloaded, we need to make a folder on your desktop. Name this folder ‘Minecraft 1.18.2 Server’, and move the file you downloaded into it. Then, in this folder, double click on the server.jar. When you do some files will appear. If not, you need to get Java 17 from the link above then run the Jarfix. Finally though, you should have an eula.txt file.
Open this EULA file, and change ‘eula=false’ to ‘eula=true’. Then, save this file. After that, double click the server.jar again. Your Minecraft 1.18.2 server will start up. To join this server, open up Minecraft 1.18.2, go to multiplayer, and join the server using localhost as your IP address. You should then join your Minecraft 1.18.2 server.
However, what if you want to play Minecraft with friends in 1.18.2? Well, to do this, you will need to port forward. Open up Command Prompt and in it, type ‘ipconfig’. Write down your IPv4 address and default gateway. Type your default gateway into your browser to to access your router. You will need to login to your router. You can find help doing this in the description above. After logging into your router, you will need to forward port 25565 on the TCP and UDP protocol in order to play Minecraft with your friends in 1.18.2.
After you have port forwarded, your friends will join your Minecraft server with your public IP address. You can find this at the link above. You can continue using the ‘localhost’ IP to join your Minecraft server in 1.18.2
