The first step of getting shaders on your Mac is actually downloading and install Optifine. With Optifine downloaded and installed, it is time to move on to how to download shaders packs for Minecraft on Mac. Shaders packs are how shaders actually works in Minecraft. They dictate what the lighting and shadows look like, and they are there reason that shaders look different depending on who is using them. Linked above, you will find a list of 10 shaders packs. Those that are MacOS compatible will be marked. However, if you have an Intel Mac you can use any shaders pack from the list. When you find a shaders pack you want download for your Mac, click the green download button under it and go through the download process.
Before we can install our shaders though, we need to make sure they are .zip files. Only shaders formatted as .zip will be able to work with Minecraft, so if your shaders pack was unzipped when it was downloaded, make sure to right-click it and click ‘Compress’ This will rezip the file.
Next, we need to open up Minecraft with Optifine. Do this buy opening the Minecraft Launcher, click the arrow next to the play button, selecting Optifine, clicking Play, and then clicking Play again. This will open up Minecraft Mac with Optifine installed.
Once Optifine is open on your Mac, click on Options, Video Settings, and Shaders. Then, click ‘Open Shaders Folder’ in the bottom right. Your shaders folder will open. Now, all you need to do to install shaders on Mac OS is drag-and-drop the shaders files you downloaded into this folders. Remember thought that they must be .zip files. Finally, when you go back to Minecraft on Mac your shaders will be there. Click them, and click done to get the activate the shaders.
