The best and most secure method to factory reset your Motorola phone before reselling involves three key stages: preparation, removing your Google Account, and the factory reset itself. This ensures your personal data is protected and the next owner can set up the phone without being locked out.

1. Preparation Steps 💾
Before wiping your phone, complete these critical steps:

Back up your data: Back up all your photos, videos, contacts, and other important files to a cloud service (like Google Drive/Google Photos) or a computer.

Remove SIM and SD Cards: Physically take out your SIM card and any SD card you have in the phone, as a factory reset will not erase data on the external SD card.

Unpair Bluetooth Devices: Disconnect or "Forget" any paired Bluetooth accessories like smartwatches or headphones.
Go to Settings Connected devices or Bluetooth.
Tap the settings/gear icon next to each device and select Forget or Unpair.

2. Remove Your Google Account (Crucial for Reselling) 🔑
This step is essential to disable Factory Reset Protection (FRP), a security feature that would lock the next owner out of the phone unless they have your Google Account credentials.

Go to Settings.

Scroll down and tap Accounts or Users & accounts.
Tap on your Google Account (usually listed as your Gmail address).
Tap Remove account (or the three-dot menu, then Remove account).
Confirm your choice and enter your phone's PIN, password, or pattern when prompted.

3. Perform the Factory Reset ✨
Once you've backed up your data and removed your Google account, you can perform the factory reset through the Settings menu.

Go to Settings.
Scroll down and tap System.
Tap Reset options (or Advanced then Reset options on some models).
Select Erase all data (factory reset).

Read the warning screen, which lists all the data that will be erased, and then tap Erase all data or RESET PHONE.

Enter your PIN, password, or pattern when prompted, and then tap Erase Everything to confirm.

The phone will reboot and begin the reset process, which can take several minutes. Once complete, it will boot to the initial welcome screen, confirming the wipe was successful and the device is ready for the new owner.
