How to Fix Black Screen & No Signal on Xbox One (Complete Guide)
If your Xbox One is stuck on a black screen, here’s a detailed guide to help you fix the issue:
1. Restart the Console
Press and hold the Xbox button on the console for about 10 seconds until it shuts down.
Wait 30 seconds, then turn the console back on by pressing the Xbox button again.
2. Check HDMI Connection
Ensure the HDMI cable is securely connected to both the Xbox and the TV.
Test the HDMI cable by using it on another device or replacing it with a different one.
Try using a different HDMI port on your TV.
3. Switch HDMI Ports
If your TV has multiple HDMI ports, use another one.
On your TV remote, cycle through the Input/Source options to ensure you're on the correct HDMI input.
4. Boot into Low-Resolution Mode
Turn off the Xbox completely.
Press and hold the Power button and Eject button simultaneously until you hear a second beep.
This starts the console in low-resolution mode (640 × 480).
Once it boots, go to Settings - General -TV & display options and set the correct resolution for your TV.
5. Disable Instant-On Power Mode
If the black screen appears after starting from Instant-On mode:
Go to Settings - General - Power mode & startup.
Change the power mode to Energy-saving.
Restart the console.
6. Check for System Updates
If you can access the menu, check for updates:
Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Go to Settings- System- Updates & downloads.
Install any pending updates.
7. Perform a Power Cycle
Unplug the Xbox and the power brick from the wall outlet.
Wait for at least 1 minute.
Plug everything back in and power on the console.
8. Reset the Console
If you can access the settings:
Go to Settings - System - Console info.
Select Reset console.
Choose Reset and keep my games & apps to avoid losing data.
If you cannot see the settings, boot into the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter:
Turn off the console.
Press and hold the Bind button (on the side or front of the console) and the Eject button (on disc-based consoles).
While holding those buttons, press the Power button.
Release the buttons after two beeps.
Select Reset this Xbox in the troubleshooter.
9. Check Your TV’s Firmware
Update your TV's firmware to ensure compatibility with the Xbox One.
Consult your TV manual or manufacturer's website for update instructions.
