How to Fix Neretze's Folly! (Main Quest Discussion & Explanation) - Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord
Why Bannerlord NEEDS CAPITALS! - https://youtu.be/VU4Qh9XqHeA
FULL SCRIPT:
Lets talk about how i would fix Neretze's Folly:
The basic concept of this quest is for you to go out and find 10 lords who
were apart of this great battle a couple years ago.
The ten lords are the among some of the strongest lords or rulers of
Calradia. There are more than 10 lords that you can talk to, but you only
need 10 to pass the mission.
Once you meet each lord, all you do is go through a small dialogue and boom,
you completed the quest, very basic and very bland.
Now i believe this quest encourages the player to explore each part of the
map, see the different types of units and terrain and engage with different
cultures and people. Thats being said, i believe the intention of this
quest is good, but the execution is underwhelming, tedious and very basic.
Now here is how i would fix it:
- First i would keep the concept of going to the major lords to ask
about a great battle and having the lords spread out around the world.
Exploring the whole map, fighting different enemies, recruiting different
troops and seeing different types of terrains and structures is cool
and should be encouraged.
- The changes would begin when you go up and a lord ask for the information.
Since this quest is meant to encourage the player to explore, why not also
show the player different mechanics of the game. The change would be to give
the player a sidequest that they must complete to receive this information
from a lord.
One great example of when a game did this perfectly in my opinion is fallout 3
and the Moira Brown quests. In these quests, Moira sends the player around
the fallout 3 world and to explore and also teaches the player of different
mechanics and concepts in the game.
Whether it was going to the super duper mart to learn how to loot or going
to Rivet City to find history and lore to even crippling yourself on purpose
to learn how to heal and use medicine, it taught the player about what is
possible in fallout 3.
Now with these changes, i would like to teach and show players what is
possible in bannerlord.
- I'm going to list 10 potential sidequest concepts to educate players
and these can be shuffled randomly when you meet a lord and once one sidequest
is complete, it gets taken out of the random sidequest roll:
1. Take out 25 (random) bandits & one hideout by the same bandits to help
villagers around a lords fief.
Shows the player how to get rid of bandit hideouts and the benefits of it.
2. Donate 20 recruits to a fief that the lord owns.
Shows the player the feature of donating troops to garrisons and eventually
beefing up their own garrisons.
3. Craft 15 weapons and sell them to a lords fief.
Shows players the concept of smithing.
4. Win 2 tournaments under a lords name.
Shows players the concept of tournaments.
5. Convince a lord to tell you his story with a speech check.
Shows the player speech checks because those are huge late game when you
convince lords to join you.
6. Go to a lords fiefs and help out a noble with a quest.
Shows the player how to improve relations with nobles through quests,
which leads to more troops being available to recruit and obviously the
quest rewards.
7. Bring the lords fief 50 grain, fish or grapes.
Shows the player how to trade.
8. Recruit a companion at a lords fief.
Shows the player how to get companions.
9. Capture 15 looters & donate them to a lords fief dungeon.
Shows the players the concept of prisoners.
10. Go and introduce yourself to a lords daughter or son.
Shows the player the concept of wooing a potential spouse.
Now once you complete all the sidequests, you will finally finish the main
Neretze's Folly quest and continue the game as usual.
Let me know what you guys think of this idea, how it can be tweaked and
any other critiques.
Hope you guys enjoyed and stay safe!
