How to increase virtual memory using window 11 on Steam Deck for Better FPS in Games
Increasing virtual memory (also known as the paging file) on your Steam Deck running Windows 11 can help improve system stability and potentially enhance performance in games, especially if you're running out of RAM. Here's how you can increase virtual memory:
Steps to Increase Virtual Memory on Windows 11:
Open System Settings:
Press the Windows + X keys and select System from the menu, or right-click on the Start button and choose System.
Access Advanced System Settings:
Scroll down and click on Advanced system settings on the right side of the window.
In the System Properties window, under the Advanced tab, click on the Settings button under the Performance section.
Performance Options:
In the Performance Options window, go to the Advanced tab.
Under the Virtual memory section, click on Change....
Manage Virtual Memory Settings:
Uncheck the box that says Automatically manage paging file size for all drives.
Select the drive (usually the C: drive) where you want to increase the virtual memory.
Choose Custom size and enter the Initial size and Maximum size values (in MB).
Initial Size (MB): This value can be set to 1.5 times the amount of your physical RAM.
Maximum Size (MB): This can be set to 3 times the amount of your physical RAM.
For example, if you have 16 GB of RAM (16,000 MB), you can set the Initial Size to 24,000 MB and the Maximum Size to 48,000 MB.
Apply and Restart:
After setting the custom size, click Set, then OK to apply the changes.
Restart your Steam Deck for the changes to take effect.
