To change the startup movie or image on your Steam Deck, you'll need to follow these steps:

1. Install a Custom Boot Animation:

Steam Deck doesn't officially support custom startup animations or images through its default settings, but you can still do it by modifying system files. Be cautious as this involves altering the system and may lead to unintended issues if done incorrectly.

2. Prepare the Custom Startup Animation or Image:
Find or create a custom video or image you'd like to use. The recommended resolution is 1280x800 to match the Steam Deck's screen.
If you're using a video, make sure it's in a compatible format, such as .webm.

3. Access the Steam Deck's File System:
Switch your Steam Deck to Desktop Mode by pressing the Steam button, navigating to Power, and selecting Switch to Desktop.
Open the Dolphin file manager.

4. Locate the Default Boot Animation:
Navigate to the following directory:
arduino
Copy code
/home/deck/.steam/root/config/uioverrides/movies/
If the uioverrides or movies folders do not exist, you'll need to create them manually.

5. Replace the Startup Animation or Image:
In the movies folder, place your custom video file.
Name the custom video file "deck_startup.webm" to replace the default startup animation.

If you are using an image, you’ll need to convert it into a video format (e.g., create a simple video from the image using video editing software).

6. Test the Custom Startup:
Once you've replaced the file, restart your Steam Deck to see your new startup animation or image.

7. Restore the Default Animation (If Needed):
If you want to revert to the default startup animation, simply delete or rename the custom file you added. Steam Deck will then revert to its original startup animation.
