How To Build A Cold Shoe Offset Extender Bracket To Keep Your Video Mic Out Of Shot, Field Of View
How to keep your microphone out of the field of view. Cold Shoe Offset Extender & Shoe Mount
In this video I'm showing you a simple solution that helps to keep your vlogging microphone outside of the field of view of your lens, or outside your picture or outside the frame or shot.
This really helps especially with microphones that have deadcats, foam filters or other types of wind filters from dipping in and out of shot.
This particular one using the Ulanzi PT-3 is good for any short vlogging video mic. I've tried this with the RODE VideoMicro, Comica CVM-VM10 and many other typical short pencil condenser mics such as those by BOYA etc.
I also use this one for my RODE VideoMic Pro Plus, RODE VideoMic NTG and a few other mic of similar length and it helps keep them all out of the frame on anything other than extra wide lenses or field of views, such as super view on the GoPro Hero8 Black.
Although I would typically use this offset bracket with my GoPro Hero8 Black, DJI Osmo Action and other small cameras and action cameras. It will also work just as well on DSLR, mirrorless, camcorders or any camera that has a wide angle lens on it.
The offset bracket is really easy to put together and uses easily obtainable off the shelf camera components and rigging. It's basically just quarter/20 1/4"-20 adaptors, a male cold shoe adaptor/mount with a quarter/20 1/4"-20 screw thread and the Ulanzi PT-3 cold shoe quarter/20 extension bracket bar.
You can of course use a longer cold shoe extender bracket to accommodate longer microphones.
Anyway, I hope this video will help you to keep your microphone out of shot.
Cheers,
Dave.
