How to maximize (or minimize) Windows Updates download speeds under Windows 10
This video will show you how to speed up and achieve the maximum download speed when performing Windows Updates under Windows 10. This video will also show you how to limit your Windows Update download speed to ensure that background Windows Updates do not slow down your network and Internet speed when performing bandwidth-heavy tasks such as gaming or streaming video.
TO MAXIMIZE THE DOWNLOAD SPEEDS OF WINDOWS UPDATES
To open the Windows Updates settings, click on the WINDOWS button (or press the WINDOWS key on your keyboard) followed by typing the word UPDATES. A principal suggestion should be 'Check for Updates' - select this option. On the Windows Update screen, select ADVANCED OPTIONS. On the Advanced Options screen, click on DELIVERY OPTIMIZATION. On the Delivery Optimization screen, if you have multiple PCs running Windows 10 on the same local area network, you can select ALLOW DOWNLOADS FROM OTHER PCs in order for PCs on the same local area network who already have the latest Windows Updates downloaded to their PC to automatically send their Windows Update data to your PC provided they are on the same local area network (local area network speeds are generally much faster than Internet speeds). From here, on the Delivery Optimization screen, select ADVANCED OPTIONS. On the Advanced Options screen, you have two sliders under Download Settings: 'Limit how much bandwidth is used for downloading updates in the background' as well as 'Limit how much bandwidth is used for downloading updates in the foreground'. It is recommended that both these options be checked and that both sliders be slid all the way to the right to 100%.
TO MINIMIZE THE DOWNLOAD SPEEDS OF WINDOWS UPDATES (to save or conserve network Internet bandwidth for other bandwidth-demanding tasks)
On the Delivery Optimization screen, select ADVANCED OPTIONS. On the Advanced Options screen, you have two sliders under Download Settings: 'Limit how much bandwidth is used for downloading updates in the background' as well as 'Limit how much bandwidth is used for downloading updates in the foreground'. It is recommended that both these options be checked and that both sliders be slid all the way to the left to 5%.
