To open up your friends list, start a chat, and send a message on your Steam Deck, follow these steps:

Open the Steam Menu:
Press the Steam button on your Steam Deck to bring up the main menu.
Navigate to Friends & Chat:

Scroll down and select Friends & Chat. This will open your friends list.
Select a Friend:

In the friends list, find and select the friend you want to chat with.
Start a Chat:

Click on your friend’s name to open the chat window.
Send a Message:

Type your message in the chat box and press Enter to send it.
