First things first, you will need to download the Minecraft controller mod for 1.20.6. In the description above, there is a link to MidnightControls and Controllable. This video will focus on MidnightControls as it is updated to 1.20.6. However, if you are wanting to us a controller with Forge mods, you will need to use the Controllable mod.
Once you have click to download MidnightControls, click then “Versions” tab and find the 1.20.6 version. Click the green “Download” button next to this to start downloading MidnightControls.
After MidnightControls is downloaded, you will also need to download the FabricAPI from the description above. This is an API mod that is required for the Minecraft Controller mod to work with Minecraft Java.
Finally, you will need to download and install the Fabric mod loader. Fabric is the mod loader that allows the controller mod to work with Minecraft 1.20.6. There is a complete guide on getting the controller mod in the description above. It covers everything including how to get the Fabric mod loader setup so you can play Minecraft using the controller mod.
After you have Fabric installed, open up the Minecraft Launcher. Then, click the “Installations” tab at the top. Finally, find your “Fabric” installation.
Hover over the Fabric installation and click the folder icon that appears. This will open your .minecraft folder. In your .minecraft folder, you should have a “mods” folder. If not, create one. Open your mods folder and drag-and-drop the MidnightControls and FabricAPI mods you downloaded into this mods folder.
Now, you can play Minecraft just make sure you are playing with your Fabric 1.20.6 installation. Otherwise the controller mod will now work. You can also connect your controller to your computer if you haven’t already. This is typically done via USB or bluetooth.
In Minecraft with your controller connected, you will be able to use it to navigate menus. You can change your controller settings using the Midnight Controls logo in the options menu as well as change key mapping in the “Controls” settings menu.
