In this video, you will learn how to safely eject and remove your YubiKey security key from your Windows PC. Unlike a USB flash drive that stores data, a YubiKey is not a storage device and therefore can be physically unplugged without needing to be ejected safely. This is because the YubiKey functions primarily as a hardware authentication device rather than a storage device with active read and write operations that could lead to data loss or corruption if suddenly unplugged. It is however good practice due to mixed use of different USB devices to continue to safely eject any and all USB devices on your Windows PC.
Steps To Safely Eject And Remove A YubiKey On Windows:
1. Navigate to your Windows system tray
2. Click on the arrow pointing upwards to show hidden icons
3. Right click on the USB icon that says "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media"
4. Click Eject YubiKey OTP+FIDO+CCID
5. Physically remove your YubiKey from your Windows devices USB port.
Congratulations, you have safely ejected your Yubico YubiKey on Windows
