How to Set the Default USB Configuration on Android Phone (File Transfer)
To set the default USB configuration on your Android phone, follow these steps:
Enable Developer Mode:
Open the Settings app.
Scroll down to the bottom and tap on “About Phone” or “System” (location may vary based on the manufacturer).
Tap on “Build Number” seven times in quick succession. If you don’t see the option, expand the “Advanced Settings” menu to find it.
Once enabled, you’ll see a message saying “You are now a developer.”
Access Developer Options:
Go to Settings - System - Developer Options (or find it under Settings - System - Advanced on some devices).
Configure USB Settings:
Scroll down and tap on “Default USB Configuration.”
By default, it’s set to “No Data Transfer.”
Choose one of the following options based on your preference:
“File Transfer”: For transferring files between your phone and a computer.
“USB Tethering”: To share your phone’s mobile connection with a computer.
Other options include MIDI, PTP, and more.
