Listening to your Audible audiobooks doesn't have to stop when you put down your smartphone or tablet, or when you step away from your computer. As long as you're near an Alexa device, you can pick up right where you left off. In this video I'll walk you through all of the commands that will do everything from helping you play and control your Audible audiobook on your Alexa device, to finding out what free audiobook is available to Alexa device owners.

Now let's explore the commands for using Audible on your Alexa device.

Let's start with some of the more basic Alexa Audible commands.

First, you can have Alexa pick up where you left off with your most recent Audible audiobook by saying "Alexa, read my book." Alexa will instantly pick up at your last known point in that book.

If you want Alexa to read a specific book in your Audible library, you can say "Alexa, read" and then say the name of the book.

You can have Alexa pause your Audible audiobook at any time by saying "Alexa, pause." Alternatively, if you've already had Alexa pause your audiobook, you can simply say "Alexa, resume audiobook."

Now let's discuss navigating your Audible audiobook with Alexa.

You can say either "Alexa, go back" or "Alexa, go forward" for Alexa to go either forward or backward 10 seconds in your Audible audiobook. Alternatively, if you want to move forward or backward a specific period of time, simply follow your request with that amount of time. For example, if I want Alexa to go forward two minutes in my audiobook, I would say, "Alexa, go forward two minutes."

You can bounce around between chapters in your Audible audiobook using Alexa by saying either "Alexa, next chapter" or "Alexa, previous chapter." Alternatively, you can have Alexa go to a specific chapter by saying something along the lines of, "Alexa, go to chapter five." If you get distracted or just want to hear something over again, you can say, "Alexa, restart chapter."

Alexa also makes it easy to adjust the speed of the audiobook narration. You can say "Alexa, read faster" or "Alexa, read slower" to speed up and slow down narration. Alternatively, you can return to the standard reading speed by saying "Alexa, read at normal speed."

Finally, let's look let at some of the other Alexa Audible commands.

You can quickly set a sleep timer for your Audible audiobook using Alexa by either saying "Alexa, stop reading after" a set period of time, or telling Alexa to set a sleep timer for a set number of minutes or hours.

If you want a high-level overview of your Audible library, Alexa can give you that as well. Just say "Alexa, what's in my Audible library?" and Alexa will list off a couple of your recent purchases and the total number of audiobooks in your Audible library before telling you to check the Audible app for a full list of your titles.

Amazon also offers a free audiobook each month through Alexa. To see what that title is, just say "Alexa, what's free from Audible?" and Alexa will say the title and start playing it.

And finally, for the truly daring, you can have Alexa read the sample of an Audible audiobook you don't own by saying "Alexa, read" and then speaking the name of the book to have Alexa start reading the sample. At any point while Alexa is reading the sample, you can say "Alexa, buy this" to purchase that Audible audiobook through your Alexa device.

And finally, if you're experiencing problems with your Audible account, you can have your device instantly contact Audible support by saying, "Alexa, call Audible" and your device will instantly dial up Audible support and get you in the queue to speak with a real person, which generally happens very quickly.
