Evaluating the Efficacy of Ruta chalepensis, Lantana camara and Ocimum basilicum Extracts in Controlling Infestations of Sitophilus oryzae, Acanthoscelides obtectus and Tribolium castaneum Infestations in Stored Grains

Layman Abstract: Chemical pesticides used to protect stored grains can be harmful to both human health and the environment. Common pests like the rice weevil, bean weevil, and red flour beetle cause major damage to stored grains, especially in India. To find a safer alternative, researchers studied essential oils from three plants: fringed rue (Ruta chalepensis), lantana (Lantana camara), and basil (Ocimum basilicum). These plant oils showed potential as natural pest repellents and killers. This research highlights the possibility of using plant-based solutions as an eco-friendly and sustainable way to protect stored grains from insect infestations.
