Do you hate Marble Zone in the original Sonic The Hedgehog? I'm presuming whoever is reading this does. It does go on a little too long, what with having THREE Acts. Thankfully, there is a rather huge shortcut to skip ALL of the dangerous underground sections in Marble Zone..as Knuckles. This method of course is a ROM hack of the original Sonic The Hedgehog on the SEGA Mega Drive/Genesis. Knuckles cannot play this game normally, even with Sonic 1 inserted into the Sonic & Knuckles game cartridge.

As the title suggests, it is a hack of Knuckles from in the original Sonic The Hedgehog. Not only can Knuckles use his trademark glide and wall-climbing abilities, he can also use the Spin Dash to traverse the level quicker on solid ground. While there is a giant wall designed to make Sonic take underground paths, it is still possible to climb and walk on them, without being obstructed or going out of bounds. This means it's possible to skip the dangerous Marble Zone almost entirely, and complete the first two Acts in around 30 seconds, and Act 3 in around a minute.

This is particularly useful if you just want to clear it quickly - especially Act 2! - without worrying about the Special Stages. As you can see, it took approximately two minutes of gameplay to clear Marble Zone. Normally, it would take anywhere from nine to twelve minutes, depending on what routes you take, as some are much more dangerous then others.

Just be warned: despite the very useful abilities, Knuckles still can't jump as high as Sonic or Tails. Therefore, certain boss battles will be slightly harder, such as Marble Zone. Others such as Labyrinth Zone will be significantly easier. The slightly weaker jump is the only real difference though. It's fun to blast through all these levels by gliding from a high platform! That 'Good Ending' from Sonic 1 is overrated anyway...
