A quick demonstration with real-time instructions on how to access the Level Select in Sonic The Hedgehog, for the SEGA Mega Drive. This classic cheat also works on most if not all future ports, compilations and ROM hacks of the game. It's super easy to do as well. The only thing of note to remember is the last part of the code. As long as you perform the correct button combinations, that is all that matters when accessing the Level Select screen.

Here is how the Level Select code is done: fire up Sonic 1 and at the title screen press: Up, Down, Left, Right. When you hear the chime to signify the correct code up to this point, you then press A and Start at the same time. This is important as failing to get the timing right will simply start the game as normal. Feel free to enjoy this bonus footage of me blasting through Star Light Zone Act 2 - a fun level for sure - in a quick time. Not a personal best or world record, but it's better then nothing.

You can now access any level in the game, including starting off at the first Special Stage. Handy if you want a cheeky Chaos Emerald from the start! Other options include a full Sound Test of all the music in the game plus all the sound effects. Another notable thing is the order in which the levels are listed in the menu.Most notably being Labyrinth Zone is second from the top, despite being the fourth level in the game. This is due to which order the levels were supposed to be in before being changed. Likely due to difficulty reasons. Only Green Hill Zone and Scrap Brain are in the same spot, with the original order being 1-4-2-5-3-6 in regards to where they end up in the released version of the game.
