Review:

The Heinkel Lerche III is one of the fastest aircraft I flew in this game, it is agile, has good acceleration, good speed, good rate of climb, aerodynamically stable, and easy to fly. The unique feature about this aircraft are, the pilot is laying down with his face towards the cockpit, and the it can land vertically. The pilot layout allows the aircraft to take much higher Gs without blacking out. It looks too futuristic for a 1940s design, there wasn't anything quite like it in the world. Even by today's standards, it looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.

The Nazis designed aircraft like this to land in damaged airstrips, and it can land on any even surface. During 1943 to 1945, many Luftwaffe airstrips were being bombed and strafed by U.S. escort fighters, like the P-47s, P-38s, and P-51s. By 1944, a lot conventional Luftwaffe aircraft, like the Me-109s, FW-190s, & others were landing on the autobahn, and they were also landing in secret bases in the forests. By 1944, the Luftwaffe was on the defensive, so a aircraft like the Heinkel Lerche III was devised. This was purely a aircraft thought out of in desperation, and zero prototypes were actually produced. If the Luftwaffe had aircraft like this in 1942 or 1943, I am sure they could have turned the tide in the air war in Europe. If the war would have gone on for 1 or 2 years, the Luftwaffe could clear the skies of heavy allied bombers, and even aircraft like the B-29 or the B-32 could easily be shot down. A skilled pilot could shot down at least 3 bombers or more. With this aircraft you can just fly past the escort fighters, like P-51s, climb high and make steep angle attacks on any bomber.

The only thing I was intimated with this aircraft was figuring out how to land it. It looks intimating to think you can land something like this vertically, but it is possible. When you get near the landing zone, slow the speed down to 350 to 400 kph. You can stabilize the aircraft in the vertical position by using the air brakes. Some stabilizing fins will pop out when you apply the air brakes, and it will allow you to position the aircraft vertically. After you do this, tilt the aircraft 90 degrees. Use the other cockpit view, so you can move the aircraft from the vertical view. The reason for the awkward pilot layout become apparent when the aircraft is vertical, you are standing up. When the aircraft is horizontal, you are laying down.

When you stabilize the aircraft in the vertical view, change your view, you can move the aircraft from the vertical view like a helicopter. To go down, adjust the throttle control by decreasing it. Decrease the throttle to 40%, you will slowly descend, and the speed will be negative. Go down at a steady rate of -40/kph to -50/kph, but make sure you hit the ground at about -10 kph. When you are about 20 meters the ground shut down the engines. It can be a little tricky, because when you are descending too quickly, like -50 kph to -70 kph, you need to throttle up to 110 %. Have fun!
