Indie Roguelike Hack & Slash Action in an Apocalyptic Jungle! – Ending Tau Demo –
Ending Tau is an Indie, Action Roguelike, a Hack and Slash RPG set in an apocalyptic jungle overcome by a dark god.
The Jungle Dungeon:
With visually striking Pixel Graphics painting your way through the dark, the jungle dungeons of Ending Tau are procedural, providing a random dungeon every run, helping to keep the action fresh.
There are altars you find in the jungle, these altars give you powers to assign to inventory parts; arms, mind, essence, and body, and you can assign at least 2 per slot, further modifying them; nice!
I like how the blessing you get changes your body, and unlock new abilities; for example, the wings are really handy.
Sometimes, there are pits that you can’t cross without wings; 1 time, an altar was just out of reach; it’s good mobility abilities have real value here.
There are also pick 1 of 3 upgrade rooms, where you get to choose 1.
You can go back and explore around the maps if you want, but enemies will seal you in a room until you kill them all.
There are artifacts you can find that grant passive bonuses too; nice.
The Combat:
The Combat in Ending Tau is fast and movement focused.
Your arm abilities chosen at altars determine both your fast and alt attack, and you have a sprint, as well as a dodge roll, granting great mobility.
There is no stamina system here to limit how often you can attack, dodge, or sprint, encouraging speed, but your attacks slow you, as you stop when you make the attack; this is good, as it creates a meaningful choice when you choose to attack: do you need the dps right now, or the survivability offered by increased speed?
There is also no bump damage by default here; good, it means monsters must earn their hits, and not just bump into you and somehow hurt you with all their evilness!
You can push enemies around too as they have collision; good!
The magic in Ending Tau is wild too.
You charge it up hitting enemies, and when you use it you disappear, and unleash it incredible power upon your foes, targeting it with X.
Gameplay Tip: don’t break fiery vases, as they have food inside, and the food will disappear if you leave the room after breaking it.
Controller support is present, and is good, as is good old mouse and keyboard; both worked well, but I found gamepad felt better here.
Note: This is an early look at Ending Tau so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, Ending Tau is an Action Roguelike RPG with Random Dungeons and visually striking Pixel Graphics, and is easily well worth a wishlist and a watch.
