An Indie, Action Roguelike Dungeon Crawling Spelunky Like? Yes! – Corvian Curse Demo –
Corvian Curse is an Indie, Action Roguelike Dungeon Crawler that feels like a more approachable Spelunky, without being rushed by an un-killable force.
If you ever wanted Spelunky without being rushed, Corvian Curse could be a good fit for you.
I like it.
Feels Like A More Approachable Spleunky:
Like Spelunky, Corvian Curse is a Sidescroller with Randomized dungeon lvls, full of hungry creatures and nasty traps.
You make your way through the trap and foe filled dungeon lvls; trying to find the exit to the next floor,
jumping, dodging spikes and avoiding pressure plates, all while scoring loot in the form of purple ore, or even blowing it out of the walls!
Fall damage is present, to add a cost to platforming, and falling onto a spike is exactly as fatal as you would imagine!
Remember: Bombs can break spikes!
There are spiders that hide in the pots too; like the snakes in Spelunky!
To help you get around, there are mobility potions; which give you a really high jump when smashed against a wall; sort of like a very limited, but much faster, rope from Spelunky.
There are also bomb potions, which function much like bombs from Spelunky, letting you blow enemies and walls apart to make your own way, or to score some loot!
Corvian Curse is much like Spelunky, but absent the part many people did not like; being rushed.
Differing From Spelunky:
Nobody is chasing you here!
This is a big one, as being rushed through a dangerous, trap filled dungeon by a literally un-killable force is not exactly fun for some.
Beyond that big change, in Corvian Curse, the potions you find are interchangeable (apparently your character is some kind of alchemist / transmuter), so they can be either bomb or bounce potions, whichever you need at the moment, which is very handy for both your mobility and destructive needs.
So, if you ever wanted Spelunky without being rushed, Corvian Curse could be a good fit for you; it is for me.
Controller Support is present and good.
There is keyboard support but no mouse control in game outside of menus.
I’m not a fan of two hands on keyboard controls; I rapidly went with the gamepad here.
Note: This is an early look at Corvian Curse so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, Corvian Curse is a fun 2D Sidescroller with Random Dungeons and easy to read Pixel Graphics, and is easily well worth a wishlist and a watch.
