In this video I cover Salient OS and it's suitability as a Linux distribution for gaming.

Salient OS is available in two flavours, one that uses the KDE desktop environment and another that uses the XFCE desktop environment.

Salient OS pre-installs the latest versions of gaming and media software such as Steam, Lutris, Wine, Kdenlive and OBS.

It also has pre-configured and enabled gaming technologies such as Feral Gamemode, DXVK and Esync out of the box.

In fact the only thing you need to do if you have a nVidia GPU is install the latest driver, which is made easy by scripts that streamline the process.

The look and feel of the distribution is very intuitive with shortcuts to almost everything a couple of clicks away.

The only concern I have is that it is Arch Linux, so you should check if any updated packages require manual intervention before updating.

In either case, I would also recommend frequent backups just in case something goes wrong, and this is a good practice irregardless of whether you are running Linux or even Windows.

In conclusion, Salient OS does appear to be a combination of the pre-installed tweaks of a distribution such as Pop OS and the user friendly approach as a distribution such as Manjaro, including all the latest availability of packages that is expected from a Arch distribution.

So if you want to try out gaming on Linux, but do not want the hassle of setting everything up, then Salient OS may be the one for you.
