In this video I cover Solus and it's suitability as a Linux distribution for gaming.

Now, Solus is an interesting distribution as it is not actually based on any other distributions.

For example, Pop OS is based on Ubuntu, and Manjaro is based on Arch.

But instead Solus, is independently built and maintained on a rolling release cycle, which means that you will get the latest packages after they have been deemed stable by the Solus team.

Solus is available in four desktop environments, Gnome, KDE, Mate and Budgie.

On advantage of of Solus is that all the software you need to install to set up Solus for gaming is easily available in the Software Centre.

Below is a short list of what should be installed:

gamemode
gamemode-32bit
lutris
steam
wine
wine-32bit

DoFlicky can also be used to install the latest versions of drivers for nVidia GPUs.

Solus does come with a Linux Steam Integration application that allows you to switch between native and Steam runtimes, which can help with performance on certain games.

I have heard claims that Solus offers better performance when playing games, but I personally have not noticed a difference in comparison to gaming on Pop OS or Manjaro.
