Jak 3: Part 4: Non-Combat Racing (+ An Attempt at Infinite Precursor Orbs)
The deal Kleiver had with Jak & Daxter is that if they helped him with his Kanga-Rat problem, he'd let him use one of his wastelanding vehicles.
But he forced them to first use his smallest and wimpiest car available: Tough Puppy.
Kleiver then toyed with them a bit more on a race bet. If Jak wins his race, he'll let him keep that car, but if he loses...
...then Kleiver gets to keep Daxter... and it sounded like he wanted to EAT him.
----------
First, you just learn how to drive the Tough Puppy. All of its controls from steering to jumping, to skidding to braking, to reversing and jumping in place.
The Tough Puppy is definitely a beginner's car. It's not too fast, and it doesn't have any weapons built into it, but past this whole mission, you won't have to use it for much longer.
This will be the first time you can explore the Wastelands. It's even bigger than Haven City ever was!
For racing, you can pick up turbo boosts, but you can only use one of them every few seconds. On top of that, the terrain is pretty jank, can you're gonna see yourself flipping around quite a lot.
Beat his race, and you can use the Tough Puppy for as long as you want... and also Daxter doesn't get eaten.
You can also talk to an Oracle near the track for a Time Record challenge on the track, but with the Tough Puppy, don't expect yourself to get anything more than the Sliver prize.
----------
Speaking of which, yes, there are also Oracles in this desert with their own challenges.
I go for the cheat I tried to do earlier. In a Search Challenge, if you try to "Punch" a Gold Precursor Orb at JUST the right moment it disappears, you will still pick it up for 3 Orbs, even the game still says "Mission Failed".
For an example, at 7:12, I started with 31 Precursor Orbs. Because of this trick, I can repeat this challenge, but I now have 34 Orbs.
Compared to the trick you could pull for this same result in Jak II (which doesn't work in this game), this trick is much harder to do consistently. Kinda goes well with how you have use Orb to buy your Secrets now, doesn't it?
I will try to do this in several more video. I might even compile into a new video completely dedicated to showing off how to pull this off.
