Jay's rad unriggable Cloak Workflow (MD CC iClone and UE)
In this deep dive I'll show you how I've been able to rig a Marvelous Designer cloak for low-res version background characters. Cloaks and dresses typically don't behave well when you turn them into rigged follower clothing, because they never flare properly, especially not when they're flared to begin with. My animations were seated and kneeling, which made it all the more impossible.
The solution was to not rig the clothing from an A-Pose, but instead from a seated pre-draped position exported from Marvelous Designer. Character Creator and iClone worked wonders for this, and with a little help from Blender this works a treat in Unreal Engine. Before I undoubtedly forget the 497 steps necessary to make it happen again next week, I thought I'd record it and share it with both you and my future self.
Enjoy!
