Jazz Jackrabbit 2, released in 1998, is the last "shareware" game to be released until the name of Epic MegaGames. It was the sequel to the original Jazz Jackrabbit, a side-scrolling platformer where you play as an alien rabbit name Jazz through various levels to defeat the evil turtle Devan Shell. In this new game, Jazz is marrying Princess Eva, whom Jazz had to save in the previous game. Devan is back, and this time he's stolen Jazz and Eva's wedding ring to use in a time machine. Jazz must travel through time to reach the evil turtle, get his ring back, and marry the princess.

In this sequel, you can play as Jazz or Spaz, and in later expansions as the character Lori. Each area has two vast levels containing a variety of different enemies, and items to be collected such as food, coins, weapon power ups, ammo for special weapons, and carrots which restore your health. At the end of every two levels, there is a boss you have to beat to move on to the next area. Some of the level designs show signs of being heavily influenced by Sonic the Hedgehog and the Mario games.

The music for the game was composed by Alexander Brandon, who would be best known as one of the composers for Unreal, and the Unreal Tournament series. Jazz Jackrabbit 2 also served as a test platform for the new mod music system that would be used in Unreal a year later.
