To say the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were a global phenomenon is an understatement. So, a video game adaptation of the cartoon sensation was inevitable. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the arcade game is the first of two produced by Konami at the time.

Players selected which of the four main character they'd play by inserting a coin into the slot corresponding to that turtle. The arcade cabinet has four sets of controls, so you and three other friends could fight your way through the Big Apple to the Technodrome to save Master Splinter and April O'Neil.

The gameplay is simple, you can move around using the joystick, and there are buttons for jumping, and two different attacks. A standard attack, and a stronger attacker. While airborne, you can also do kicks. All the enemies from the TV cartoon series are here, the Foot Clan ninja bots, which wear different colored shinobi shozoku aka ninja robes indicating what kind of attacks and weapons they carry. There are also the Krang's robots, the taller ones that run around on one wheel shooting lasers, and can grab you in an electrifying cable. And, there are the little ones that attack with a maw of metallic teeth. Bebop and Rocksteady make an appearance as bosses, as well. The boss fights are your basic beat downs. The game, overall, is fairly difficult if played solo, especially the boss fights.
