This video is dedicated to Taran Williams, my best friend for over 10 years, and my brother for life. Thank you for always being there for me Tar, in moments where I couldn’t confide in anybody other than you.

This scene opened the greatest video game experience I had the privilege of playing. It immediately engulfed players into the world of The Last of Us and brought the emotional anguish and conflict that only Naughty Dog could pull off. This scene was a triumph of performance with Troy Baker and Jeffrey Pierce embodying Joel and Tommy and kicking off what is to be a 24-hour journey with the theme that heralded the original game: love. The love that these two brothers share for each other, despite the turmoil their relationship fell under post the cordyceps outbreak.

I had to drag myself out of the sheer pain, worry, and love that these two actors put on in a matter of 2 minutes and realize that I had to perform this scene. I had to constantly remember that this, unlike a lot of my other projects was about the objectives of these characters and the emotions driving their choices rather than the voice. I soon realized that there always needs to be a balance as I felt myself falling out of the characters' voices. After numerous takes and a lot of setting up objectives, I was able to craft a performance that I am very happy with. Finding that distinction between the two characters’ somewhat similar voices was a challenge but straddling the line between voice registers made it possible.

This game continues to be a triumph of craftsmanship by Naughty Dog, direction and writing by Neil Druckmann and Halley Gross, and phenomenal performances by Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson and Jeffrey Pierce.

I am honored and excited to present you all with my take on the Joel confides in Tommy Scene from The Last of Us Part II.
