Cross Narrative Scene: Thor (MCU) Vs. Kratos (God of War Series) Created and Performed by Sam John
1For the first scene exploring this new concept, I knew it had to set itself apart from what’s come before and I couldn’t think of two more legendary characters to explore in this first video than Thor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Kratos from the God of War Series.
As I began writing the script for this I tried to encapsulate all the times I’ve played the game and the number of times I’ve seen Thor depicted in the entire MCU. These two characters are originally performed by Chris Hemsworth and Christopher Judge and I knew that my vocal choice for both characters had to be booming and intimidating. The point of difference that I knew I had to solidify was the accents. Both characters have such unique ways of speaking and I was very happy with the manner I captured those tones while also adding my own objectives and stakes in accordance with the script I wrote.
It added so much to the overall performance to have all these elements of writing to recording to mixing to the final export be a part of my process. I knew this would be incredibly challenging and it did live up to that but it was also incredibly rewarding and enjoyable.
This was a passion project if there ever was one. Bringing these two amazing characters crafted by Santa Monica Studios and Marvel Studios was something that reminded me once again that this is what I want to do and I am so blessed to have the opportunity to do it.
