0I had never been interested in the Yakuza series and its spin-offs. Although they are always set in an open world that is praised by the players for its map filled to the brim with side-activities, games and collectibles, I had always been put off by the abdurd nature of the games and loooooong dialogues and cutscenes. And then I saw Judgment on PS Store. I got intrigued by the gameplay, the setting (a fictional city district in Japan). It felt kind of familiar so I look more deeply into the game's description. It turned out to be a spin-off of the Yakuza series. Since it was on sale, I purchased the game and sit down for something I call a "scout session". And here I am, with another playthrough - on the highest possible difficulty, as always.
In Judgment, you play (at least most of the time, but no spoilers) as Takayuki Yagami, an ex-lawyer who changed his profession and became a private eye after one of his clients, for whom he won acquittal at the court, murdered his girlfriend soon after. In the course of one of his investigations, Yagami gets involved in the case of a serial killer who has already offed three yakuza members. This is basically the starting point of the plot which gradually introduces new characters and unravels new elements to the puzzle. The player's mission is to uncover the truth... but also enjoy his free time at one of the numerous spots in Kamurocho and make friends among the community :P
