A quick Steam Deck OLED performance test Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition in docked mode, FHD
There is a lot of videos on YT with various games tested on Steam Deck. Most of them present the footage of the screen and how the game looks ON Steam Deck. Some people, however, use their Steam Deck as a desktop PC or a regular console. My tests intend to show how the game looks and performs on an external screen, in full HD (not in 4k for performance reasons) with certain scaling options.
NOTE 1: The game appears to be locked at 30 FPS.
NOTE 2: The recorded footage seems darker than the game seems on the screen/TV.
NOTE 3: In this particular case, I tested the game both in scaled Full HD (Steam Deck upscales the game to full HD while the actual internal resolutions stays 720p) and in regular FHD (set in the game settings on its Steam page) and I must admit that the game looks better in 720p with FSR upscaling o.O. It might not be that obvious in the video because of YT compression, but the actual raw, unedited videos prove that the upscaled 720p graphics are more crisp, seem less washed out (this is a pretty old game).

I have always had a mixed feeling about souls-like games: they are fantastic, have great mechanics, atmosphere and visuals but they always seem to balance on the verge of challenge and cheap frustration. Still, although I haven't still finished any of the Dark Souls, I really think the first game in the series is an important milestone in the history of games. I really recommend playing it on Steam Deck - it's fluent, responsive and convenient. Looks great on the screen!
The game is marked on Steam as "Unsupported" in terms of Steam Deck compatibility but that's probably because the Prepare To Die Edition is no longer available on Steam Store. It works just fine and out of the box EXCEPT for the name input in the character creator - when you click on "name", you will get the virtual keyboard to type your name, but once you confirm it, the name itself is not actually saved and you get stuck on this option, none of the buttons will work. IF THIS HAPPENS: press the Steam Deck's key binding for the virtual keyboard (Steam button + X) and type the name once again.
NOTE: Bear in mind that this is recorded in the docked mode, meaning the performance might always be a bit lower than in the regular handheld mode due to the scaling, etc.
