A quick performance test Farming Simulator 25 + Farming Simulator 16 bit Steam Deck OLED docked
There is a lot of videos on YT with various games tested on Steam Deck. Most of them present the footage of the screen and how the game looks ON Steam Deck. Some people, however, use their Steam Deck as a desktop PC or a regular console. My tests intend to show how the game looks and performs on an external screen, in full HD (not in 4k for performance reasons) with certain scaling options.
NOTE: I tested the game on the Zielonka map because of the close distance to the store and a decent field ready to be harvested. I also used the huge combine harvester from the collector's edition for two reasons: a) it looks cool b) it's a huge machine and a lot is happening during its operation (flying particles, moving components of the header) so it's great to test the FPS and the general performance when the game needs to handle itself when the player goes "heavy duty".
NOTE 2: I installed the game through the Giants installer and the game is used as a non-steam app, so there is a chance that if you have the Steam version of the game, it might perform a bit better (for compatibility reasons?).
I think I reached a point in my life as a gamer that I am more hyped about the new Farming Simulator than the newest Assassin's Creed or even GTA VI. Judging from almost 150k concurrent players on Steam after the game's release (compared to less than 100k in case of Dragon Age Veilguard), I am not the only one. What can I say, I know that I will spend dozens if not hundreds of hour at my virtual farms and I am glad this game performs really well on the Steam Deck. I showcased only the settings I use because there is no point of showing the game on high or ultra (a sudden drop in FPS and performance, duh) and I noticed no significant improvement in performance with low settings. I always prefer sacrificing few FPS for better visuals :)
As a bonus, I played the 16-bit special game added to the Collector's Edition. It is a Sega Genesis-like game that simplifies farming to the very minimum, but I really appreciate the effort made by Giants to add a nice touch to the release of the game :)
NOTE: Bear in mind that this is recorded in the docked mode, meaning the performance might always be a bit lower than in the regular handheld mode due to the scaling, etc.
