General information and discussion:
This is easily one of the stupidest and most hilarious things I’ve ever seen happen in a game I’ve watched like 10,000 streams of in which stupid and hilarious things happen constantly, and Kurea-sama’s reaction is amazing. She makes the cutest frustrated rage noises, must protect at all costs. I know some people really hate it when subbers put things like *such-and-such Kurea noises* over gibberish, so I didn’t, but if any clip warrants that treatment, it’s this one. Ridiculously cute stuff.
This clip was hard, not gonna mince words about it. Kurea-sama is not that easy to understand on a good day, but especially not when she’s just been jumpscared. I’ve very likely misheard at least one word in here somewhere, probably more. She also tends not to speak in complete sentences which means even when she does enunciate enough to be heard clearly, it’s not always easy to figure out what she means. Especially so this time, all the usual disclaimers apply: I make these translations in large part to practice my Japanese, which is not very good. I have my work proofread by my friend Cherem, whose Japanese is much better than mine. Big thanks to him for doing so. I like to leave detailed translator’s notes to help people understand why I chose to translate certain things in certain ways.

0:08 I find it very amusing that word “jama” (hindrance, obstacle, interference, or, more casually “in the way”) comes from a Buddhist term meaning a demon who attempts to interfere with humans behaving morally. So, rather than “the pot is in the way,” a VERY literal translation of this sentence could be “the pot is a demon attempting to interfere with my moral virtuousness.” Rather uncanny of her to use that word in this exact moment.
0:41 She cuts herself off here, but you can see on the display that the word she was reading is “cheddar cheese.”
1:31 Rather than being a neutral term for “guy,” “yarou” is really an insult used for adult males that originated as a designation for an Edo-period hairstyle. There is no comparable English insult. Wikipedia suggests “bumpkin,” I assume since the kanji for “yarou” (野郎) literally spells out “son of the fields,” and while “bumpkin” has a similar modern usage to that etymology, it has nothing to do with hairstyles and instead originated as a racial slur for the Dutch.
1:46 “Yoisho” is an expression of effort or exertion. There’s no way to convey that well in English, so the closest thing is “alright” or “okay,” which is intended to imply something like “things are alright now [because of some action I have just taken that required effort].”
2:48 A bakemono is a specific type of youkai that possesses shapeshifting powers. It’s a bit different from a “demon” in the western mythological sense in that it’s not inherently evil or something that’s summoned by or makes contracts with humans. Personally, I like using the term “demon” for youkai in general because I resent the corruption by Jews and Christians of the original morally neutral Greek word to mean in modern parlance merely “evil servant of Satan,” but that’s just my own bias.
3:09 *IMPORTANT* This line is quite hard to hear. Me and my editor came to similar conclusions as to what it means, but neither of us are confident we have a full understanding of it.
3:12 I’m not familiar with this sound effect and I can’t find it listed anywhere under anything that makes a lot of sense in terms of putting an object down, so to get “plop” I’m just going off context and how the actual noise sounds to me. Jisho gives “(blinking) repeatedly” for シパシパ, so maybe it can be used for any repeating action?
3:16 I’m not sure what the words she’s attempted to start saying here are, so I’ve just transcribed what they sound like to me.
4:42 The label on the screen says “advanced controls,” but the term “advanced controls” is too advanced.
