It’s about time I did a 774 translation, but honestly I’m kinda surprised the first one is of Soya. She kinda crept up on me in terms of going from someone I had never watched before to someone I *really* liked really fast, but she’s just so lovable, it’s no wonder. She’s such a ray of sunshine, her streams always cheer me up. Animare is full of crazy people, her included, but she’s crazy in a good way.
This clip’s not that long or complicated, fortunately. Honestly, the hardest parts were probably just explaining her name in the TNs and trying to capture the cute way she talks as accurately as I can. Her language and tone has this sort of intimate feeling about it to me, I really like it. All the usual disclaimers apply: I make these translations in large part to practice my Japanese, which is not very good. I have my work proofread by my friend Cherem, whose Japanese is much better than mine. Big thanks to him for doing so. I like to leave detailed translator’s notes to help people understand why I chose to translate certain things in certain ways.

0:43 I don’t like to try to replicate people using their names as their first person pronouns by having them refer to themselves in the third person in English since that would just sound way worse. In this case it sounds strange because what’s happening is she’s dropping the subject at the beginning of the sentence (which is a thing you can do) and then tacking it on to the end of the sentence to clarify what she means. It’s especially important to note in this case exactly what she’s using to refer to herself because her normal first person pronoun and nickname is “Soya.” This is different from her family name’s normal pronunciation of “Souya,” although as you can hear/read, she’ll often just pronounce that as “Soya” anyway. She changed her first person pronoun from “Ichika” to “Soya” so that people would call her Soya because it’s easier to egosearch. This is, by the way, a perfect example of why, in words and names with an おう (ou) sound, the u should never be dropped in romanization. Many vtubers do this with the official spelling of their names (e.g. “Kitakoji Hisui,” “Suo Sango,” etc.) and it always annoys me.
1:02 “Shisemin” is her name for her viewers. “Min” is a term for people that is often used to refer to collectives of internet users, and “shise” is short for “shiawase,” meaning happiness. “Shise” is part of her catchphrase “shise ni naru” (“become happy”), and this clip is taken from a show of hers called “shise raji” (“happiness radio”).
1:14 Since I pointed out her first person pronoun earlier, I’ll point out here that for this one line she switches to “atashi” (a lazier/casual and more feminine way of saying “watashi”) in order to sound less juvenile and more mama-like. She also uses the “wa” sentence-ender, which adds an extra little sophisticated and feminine-sounding impression.
