I don’t even know how to begin to describe Patra. I will at least say that without her, I would be getting significantly less sleep every night. She’s a legendary figure and rightly so. I don’t know what Nanashi was thinking trying to cast her in a tsun-tsun dominatrix role, she’s easily one of the sweetest vtubers there is, and that’s really saying something. This is from an ancient stream but I really love this situation and I wanted to clip something that showed off that echo effect, which I like a lot but she doesn’t use so much nowadays.
This clip is long but the language she uses honestly isn’t that fancy and she’s not that hard to hear. Still though, there’s lots of room for mistakes, and the video editing was hell (damn 60fps…) so I may have messed up on that front too. The actual subs formatting is also a little different from usual too since I wanted to make it really readable on that busy background (especially on mobile). All the usual disclaimers apply: I make these translations in large part to practice my Japanese, which is not very good. I have my work proofread by my friend Cherem, whose Japanese is much better than mine. Big thanks to him for doing so. I like to leave detailed translator’s notes to help people understand why I chose to translate certain things in certain ways.

1:43 Usually I don’t like changing something like this that’s already in English, but this case is kinda like a reverse “sake,” in that in Japanese, the English term for a specific kind of artist/art (“illustrator”/“illustration”) gets used for artists/art in general, a lot more inclusively than it would be in English.
2:05 As usual, I’m not going to change 2nd-person references to be in the 3rd-person in English since that sounds really bad, but it’s worth pointing out that her form of address for you at the beginning of this is “onii-san.” Rather than having anything to do with blood relatives, in this context “onii-san” is a fairly neutral way to refer to a guy whose name you don’t know. It’s more polite and makes the person being addressed sound less old than “oji-san,” which is also common. “Anata,” which she uses later, is more familiar.
10:49 The Japanese title is literally “The Mermaid Princess,” but I went with the English title “The Little Mermaid” because, from what I can tell, it’s closer to the Danish original.
20:43 At this point in the original stream, youtube or Patra’s internet or something breaks and the stream cuts out for a minute or so.
