Today I'm continuing my Kerbal Space Program 1.0 career mode game.

We don't have quite enough science to unlock any more tech tree items, and the one survey contract we have on Kerbin requires to fly above 19 km at two location, which we probably won't be able to do with a single craft. So we head to mission control and pick up some more contracts to do.

We select two easier survey missions on Kerbin. In the process of doing them, we upgrade both the runway and the space plane hanger.

We do the first mission, which requires one in atmosphere report, and two EVA reports on the surface. Once we get the in flight report, we come in for a landing near the surface reports, but applying the breaks on an uneven surface results in a rapid unplanned disassembly of the aricraft. Jeb pulls through, though, and complete the mission the hard way.

We then design a new aircraft for the second temperature survey, as this has one high altitude reading, and all the locations are about an hour's flight away. The new aircraft has two jet engines, and one swivel engine for reaching the high altitude, and it goes over our previous part limit. While this new craft has some trouble reaching 12 km like the previous one could, it does get up over 10 km, and has much more fuel on board, including rocket fuel, so it can much more easily fly the distance needed. With this craft, we get the readings needed for this second contract and successfully land and recover.

With these contracts complete, we have the science we need to unlock another item on the tech tree!
