Back to the grind. This time, I played through the fifth world. Unfortunately, there were diminishing returns this time around: apparently, you don't get the last individual Kong upgrades until World 6 anyway. So I basically just got a "stronger" butt stomp that activates switches. At least Funky gave me some homing shots. Couldn't find Candy for her upgrade though.
I also managed to finish the JetPac challenge... and KI was right: it was way easier than the Donkey Kong challenge. And that got even easier when I was told I had an attack. They even gave me extra lives this time! What a concept! Part of me wonders if ruining the Donkey Kong arcade port was just Rare's way of trying to tank Nintendo's reputation or something. I mean, I already believe that they sabotaged DK64 after making a stellar trilogy on SNES was revenge over the fact that Europeans were too stupid to create 60Hz televisions until the 2000s. Making Nintendo's classic game look worse than their own seems relatively benign by comparison.
Dari was right about the day/night cycle though. God, what a pain. This game seems to revel in the idea of backtracking for the sake of tedium. You can only change Kongs with tag barrels, even though "rooms" are beginning to contain items for 3 or more Kongs at a time now. Now you have to keep going back and forth to cycle through day and night to open and close certain doors. At least there's rhyme and reason to the teleport pads this time.
The boss fight honestly wasn't much better. It was a rematch with the second boss, only this time I was given a much slower character to use... and a timed second half, with some annoying mechanics. Seriously, all damage sink bosses should be required to have a health meter... especially in cases where you're literally sinking into a pool of lava. I've been told the World 6 boss is going to be another rematch... and a very annoying one at that.
I also hit an important milestone with this stream. According to KI, you only need 100 Golden Bananas to complete the game. I'm at 102 now. Didn't manage to hit my goal of 50% completion though... missed it by a single percentage point. How demoralizing. Oh well, there's always next stream...
