Kongo Bongo Gone Wrongo - Episode 8: Raring to Be Let Go

I won't bury the lead: this is the final stream I'll be doing for Donkey Kong 64.
...because I beat it! It's over! I may not have gone for 101%, but I did end up beating the game. I did what Shell couldn't... and toppled a horrible game. I'm not sure if this was a bigger pain than Bubsy 3D, but considering the fact that it took me longer to finish this one, it definitely felt more excruciating. Of course, I technically had to use a cheat code to finish Bubsy 3D... but I still hesitate to call this the worst game I ever beat legitimately. It's probably a toss-up between this and Bebe's Kids though. A Week of Garfield may have been legitimately broken, but at least it was broken in a fun way.
The final "level" felt a lot more difficult before I actually got into it. Fortunately, collecting so many blueprints gave me more than enough time to tackle it. I remember reading somewhere that 30 minutes was how long it took for the average gamer... and frankly, I would've just gotten through by the skin of my teeth with that little time. Fortunately, I had 42 minutes to work with. Still seems like a waste that it was almost entirely random mini-games.
The final boss fight was the main attraction, and boy, it did not disappoint. This is actually where Shell gave up, which just feels like a waste. It's like going through one of those eating contests designed to torture you, then deciding you've had enough on the final bite. Especially with how much time he invested into the game... I think he spent longer on it than I did. And his streams last way longer than mine do.
The Donkey Kong segment was essentially a gimme... I managed to beat it even when I lost half my health because I didn't know what to do. The Diddy segment relied on the jetpack controls, so it was annoying. Lanky was the absolute worst part of this fight, bar none. It essentially brought back the issues I had with the World 7 boss, but multiplied them by 10. Seriously, watching that banana peel fade out of existence the very nanosecond I activated the trap almost broke me... yet I pressed on.
Tiny's segment was probably my favorite... it actually looked way harder when I watched it on Shell's stream. And bonus, the fact that both times I finished it with a single hit point left apparently scared the crap out of Dari. And as for Chunky, I guess I was slightly disappointed. KI warned me it was the hardest part of the entire fight, but I think most of that stems from just how draining the rest of the fight is supposed to be. Since Tiny's section of the boss fight reinvigorated me slightly after the absolute nightmare that is Lanky's portion, I was able to understand all of the moving parts necessary to take out K. Rool once and for all.
...then it ended up all being useless, because Candy and Funky saved the day in the ending.
cough
Anyway, I'm glad it's over and bonus! I even technically finished it on Thanksgiving. So if my family decides to go around and ask what everyone's thankful for, I'll have something extra to mutter under my breath to myself in the process.
It's funny. I essentially lost two weeks of streaming to various maladies and I'll only have to go into overtime to finish my last game of the year. If I hadn't had those setbacks, I would've been able to do all of these within my usual timeline... and that's despite essentially taking it easy this year. Makes you think.
