Goemon Take You Back to the Past - Episode 2: The Definition of Nin-sanity

I was honestly hoping to be done with this game in two streams. Let's face it, I've already been dragged into December as it is, and as far as I knew, I only had 4 stages left to beat in this game. Turns out it was only three... and I still managed to botch it. All thanks to that damned eighth level.
Hoo boy, I hate the eighth stage so much. You have to grind for money to buy another expensive item to progress again, but the town is populated with even more annoying enemies that throw hammers at you that stay on screen longer than any item drop you achieve after killing them. Like, holy crap, is that annoying as all Hell. Then you get to the stage itself, which seems to be on par with the sixth level in terms of difficulty, ending with a relatively easy boss fight after contending with those damned hammer enemies being positioned into areas where it's almost impossible to hit them or jump past them.
And then, just when you think the stage is over, it throws you into a platforming segment that would look right at home in Super Mario World... in a game with platforming controls akin to that of the original Ghosts 'n Goblins... with a zoomed-in camera that essentially forces you to take leaps of faith.
In the process of trying to make sure I grabbed the correct jutsu to make it past that segment -- specifically, the one that allows Goemon to fly -- I happened upon some of the classic reviews of this game, all within the 90% range. So I feel justified in calling this game truly and unequivocally overrated.
On the plus side, I decided to look up a longplay to see what's left in store for me after finishing this area... and by comparison, it looks like relatively smooth sailing once I get past stage 8. In fact, it looks like I was misled in terms of the number of levels: I kept hearing "ten levels", but it looks like there are only nine in total? Did they count the second part of the eighth stage as its own level? No idea.
I seriously hope I finish this wretched game next time. I really just want this to be over already.
