Somehow, finishing this game felt even more cathartic than beating Donkey Kong 64. Maybe it's because despite how long DK64 took me, pretty everything (outside of that brief hiatus) went according to plan. I never really got "stuck" in the game, per se. Mystical Ninja, on the other hand, wasn't nearly as smooth. And the fact a lot of that progression required grinding really didn't help much either.

Regardless, I did manage to finish Stage 8 this time. The real problem was actually getting back to the area where I needed that damn flying jutsu to continue, believe or not. I guess my muscle memory might've decayed in the days since I'd last streamed. Regardless, the first time I got back to where I got stuck last time I finished the stage no problem. Seriously, what the hell was that end boss supposed to be?

Then when I finally reached the final level, it was back to grinding. I wanted two of those full health recovery items on me for the final boss rush. So while it was boring, it was also kind of necessary. Honestly, I kind of regret still having an extra life on me... because without those healing items, I definitely wasn't going to be able to get through what essentially amounted to 4 boss fights in a row. It really doesn't help that the game basically cripples you any time you make a mistake, so I had to get really good at those first two rematches to actually make any headway on either of the final boss's forms.

From what I hear, the second SNES Goemon game drops a lot of the more annoying aspects of this one, opting to focus more on pure challenge than gating progress with incredibly expensive items. Not sure if I'll play that one any time soon. Either way, I'm done for the year... so I'll see you sometime next January. Hope the rest of 2021 treats you all well!
