Late-Game Minecraft 210 :: Dripstone and Deepslate
0Upon further exploration of the caves where we found our first copper ore, we realise that the cave system is really extensive! We are amazed to find many features like a ruined portal, stalactites and stalagmites, ravines and several flooded sections! We also see dripstone and deepslate blocks for the first time!
We store the first copper ore that we have ever mined in the chest since it has historical significance! Placing a few more lanterns near the cave entrance to mark it, we find another entrance nearby guarded by some skeletons. On the wall of a ravine, we see some glow lichen!
Using some spruce planks, we build a staircase across the ravine to get a closer look! Afterwards, we continue exploring the unlit sections of the caves. In a big chamber, we place down our bed to sleep and mine some copper in the morning! We explore further and notice that glow lichen is actually quite common.
Copper ore seems to be quite common as well, with around the same rarity as iron ore! We mine some of the copper veins that we see since we have very little of it. We come across what seems to be another ravine! After lighting up the surrounding caves, we come back to the rocky edge that overlooks the ravine.
Seems like the zombie is still at the bottom, waiting for us! We turn around to mine some copper and place down a lantern. As we go back down the path that we originally came from, we place down torches to light up the dark spots! An opening to the sky tells us that we are actually quite close to the surface.
We find a waterfall going deep into the ground with some cobblestone at the bottom. Mildly interesting I guess, but nothing we haven't seen before! We keep hearing zombies in the walls, so we mine around the area until we find them! We follow the tunnel up to the surface where we see that the sun is setting.
After skipping the night, we return to the caves where we move the torches around! We try to always put torches on the left as we go further from the entrance, so we can follow the torches on the right wall when we go backwards. We find another large unexplored cave section!
The sounds of a zombie and an Enderman emanate from beyond the walls! We carefully explore the caves, lighting up dark sections as we go. We have a brief encounter with a spider, a skeleton and a few zombies! As we go into the depths, we see our first dripstone blocks above a flooded section of the caves!
Higher up, we find another section of the cave with spectacular stalactites and stalagmites! A skeleton is guarding them and we dispatch it before taking a better look at the amazing formation. We hear the sounds of an Enderman again, but we only find creepers and skeletons around the corner!
We find a section of the caves that we had already explored and follow the torches to see where it leads. Unexpectedly, we end up back at the location where we had found our first copper ore! We set up another chest to offload the items that we had collected while exploring the caves.
Continuing on our adventure, we spot lava and Netherrack in the distance! We head to the end of the cave and discover a huge chamber with a ruined portal in the centre. Nice! We explore further and realise we are at the bottom of a small ravine. We try our best to light it up!
At the ravine, we cut a piece of glow lichen for ourselves with the pair of shears! We go back to the ruined portal and head down a different passage. We make our way to a flooded section of the caves where a drowned zombie is residing! Since torches would not work in the water, we use lanterns instead.
A skeleton shoots us from behind which makes us jump in fright! I guess we were lucky that it was not a creeper. Speaking of creepers, we find one bobbing up and down in the water! It explodes but it doesn't cause much damage to us. We swim through the flooded caves and find more dripstone!
Using our pickaxe, we harvest one block of pointed dripstone for a souvenir! We head back to the cave section that is filled with air and see some Netherrack, which should mean we are still close to the portal! We are cornered by two creepers against the wall and one ends up exploding, oops!
On our clock, we see that it is already night! We take a short rest before continuing. We see another spacious chamber and run around to light it up, while dodging the chasing mobs! We chance upon a large underground lava lake as well, and notice the new deepslate tucked away in the corner!
We will have to return to mine some, but now we focus on getting to safety! After placing down all our torches, we return to the site of our first copper ore to end the episode. We do get a little lost but we eventually make our way out of the maze of caves, and we picked up a block of dripstone along the way!
