Late-Game Minecraft 213 :: Crafting a Spyglass
Now that we have both amethyst and copper, we craft some new items including a spyglass! We are running low on spruce wood, so we look around and find a taiga nearby! Also, we place our axolotls in a nearby pond. Then, we start planning for a new base in the plains, built with the new 1.17 blocks!
First we go back to the location of our first copper ore where we had stored some items! We select a few items to bring back with us to the temporary base. Then, we craft a furnace so we can smelt the copper! Using our Fortune III pickaxe, we mine the copper ore blocks to get raw copper.
Seems like each copper ore block gives quite a bit of raw materials! We are quite surprised because we were used to ores like iron giving one bar for every block. I think we were very lucky to get 26 raw copper from just 3 ore blocks! Our first block only gave 2, but our second and third gave us 12 raw copper each!
We craft a block of raw copper to look at it, before smelting some in the furnace with a lump of coal! While the copper is smelting, we go back underground to harvest some growing amethyst from the geode. Seems like only the fully grown amethyst crystals can yield shards!
Going for a swim in the caves, we end up mining some deepslate! It is one of the new materials which we plan to use in the construction of our new base. When we leave, we see that it is already night outside! We take a short nap until the next morning so we do not have to deal with the monsters.
After slaying two spiders, we collect our first copper bars and craft a spyglass! It is quite a fun item to play with, but it's probably not a good idea to look into the sun! We do a little chest organisation before slaying some squids in the ocean for useful ink sacs.
Next, we fly over to a group of horses that we had spotted with our spyglass! The horses are quite close to a taiga, which contains many spruce trees. It is perfect for us as we are running low on spruce wood! We venture into the taiga and find a few sweet berries and wolves.
Picking up our axe, we start chopping down some trees! We notice some strange trees that had their leaves cut off along a chunk border. I wonder how that happened? We use our Fortune pickaxe to clear away the stray leaves for a better chance of finding saplings!
Deeper into the taiga, we see some cows and foxes! When we make our way out, we notice a flower forest in the distance as well! While trekking back to our temporary base, we clear some floating grass that has generated over a cave.
It is turning to night, and we find a hostile skeleton at the edge of the dark forest! We run back quickly and sleep beside our chests before any more monsters attack. In the morning, we plant a giant spruce tree on the water, so it would not turn our grass into podzol!
Collecting some kelp, we hunt down a few squids as well. Then, we convert some coal ore into coal for crafting torches, before placing our axolotls in the pond next to the forest biome! The axolotls deserve some space for themselves, rather than being stuck in a bucket in a Shulker box!
At the ocean, we use our buckets to scoop up a salmon and a cod to feed the axolotls. They hunt down the fish but do not seem interested to eat it! Back at the chest area, we craft a stonecutter in preparation for the construction of our new base.
Looking at the various deepslate variants, we decide to use the polished deepslate! We place down the deepslate to form some pillars. Building in a plains biome is quite easy since the land is already reasonably flat!
We build 5 pillars in total before flying into the air to get a better look. The next morning, we craft a new pair of shears and get some wool from the wild sheep! Our axolotls seem to be having fun splashing around in the pool. We end the episode beside our storage chests!
