Late-Game Minecraft 211 :: Amethyst, Axolotl, Glow Squid
Once we gather more coal for crafting torches, we continue on our spelunking trip! Going deeper into the ground, we mine our first deepslate blocks! Somehow we end up in a flooded section of the caves, where we see our first axolotl, our first amethyst geode, and eventually our first glow squids!
Yesterday we had run out of torches, so we make sure to stock up on a lot of coal today! With our Fortune pickaxe, we look through the lit sections of the caves for coal and iron! We revisit the dripstone formation that we found yesterday and light it up, accidentally falling down a hole with a skeleton.
Luckily, the hole was not that deep! We go back up with a bucket of water and head to light up another unlit section. Then, we continue to gather coal! As we mine, we mend our tools with the experience. Once we have a stack of coal and torches, we make our way to the unexplored sections of the caves.
Close to the ruined portal, we find a bunch of wild brown mushrooms. We mine a bit more ore before continuing to explore the caves, and we encounter a group of 3 creepers! We go back to the place where we saw our first deepslate yesterday and mine some coal and iron, before looking for a safe way to get down!
We want to get our hands on our first deepslate blocks, but it seems quite risky to get to the ones we had found, as they are beside a big lava lake! Instead, we check the other unlit caves for deepslate while mining more coal and iron. Digging up some coal, we break into another unexplored cave!
Seems like the cave that we had found is also connected to the lava lake. While exploring, we see a creeper and quickly block off the cave before it sees us! We craft a few more torches before getting rid of the creeper. In another branch of the caves, we finally find some easily accessible deepslate!
After making sure our surroundings are safe, we start to mine the deepslate! It looks like a very useful building block with many variations in texture and shape! We also find our first deepslate ores. After mining out a good amount of the grey-coloured stones, we store them safely in our Shulker box!
We place down a sign to remember this moment before we leave! Then, we decide to make our way down to the lava lake safely by clearing the area of mobs. We see our first tuff blocks on the sides of the cave! Exploring further, we find a flooded section of the caves and chance upon our first axolotl!
Unfortunately, while trying to light up the caves with our torches, we lose sight of the axolotl! Dang! Not all is lost however, as we spot some brilliant purple blocks in the water! We arrive at a giant cavity filled with amethyst blocks and crystals. What a wonderful sight!
We place down another sign to mark the place where we found our first amethyst crystals! We dive back into the water-filled caves to see if we can still find the axolotl! This time when we catch sight of it, we immediately grab it with our water bucket! Seems like that unlocked a new advancement for us, wow!
Heading to a nearby dead end, we pour out the contents of the bucket to look at our new pet, how adorable! Back at the amethyst geode, we craft another iron bucket just in case we find another axolotl.
Once we have two of them, we can breed them and get infinite axolotls!
Continuing to light up the caves, we see a wild yellow axolotl happily frolicking in the water! We follow it around and eventually catch it. We spot a third axolotl and hastily craft a new bucket for it! Just as we thought our day could not get any better, we find some glow squid in another chamber!
Since we cannot breed these squids, we have no choice but to slay them for their valuable ink! Sorry squids, maybe we should have name-tagged one to keep as a pet! It would be a hassle to transport them out of the caves though!
After collecting 8 glow ink sacs, we light up even more sections of the cavern before heading back to the amethyst geode. We collect a few tuff blocks as well! We look around us to admire the sparkling purple gems before ending the episode.
