Late-Game Minecraft 214 :: A Stream for the Axolotls
Continuing to work on our base, we decide on the floor layout and dig out some grass! Noticing another pond in the plains, we create a small stream that connects it to the pond that we had placed our axolotls in yesterday. We are delighted to see the axolotls swimming back and forth between the two ponds!
Our giant spruce tree has grown! We spend some time to chop it down for more wood. Then, we head over to the site of our new base where we move one of the pillars further away from a cave entrance! We do a little landscaping to ensure that the pillars are all at the same level.
We hear an Enderman teleporting around and get rid of it! We wouldn't want it to pick up random blocks and ruin the pretty landscape. Then, we dig out some dirt to mark where the walls of the base should go! We also pick up the spruce saplings floating in the water and plant 4 more of them.
After visiting our axolotls in the pond, we place some grass blocks down between two pillars. This forms a nice curve of grass! On the opposite side of the plot of land, the land is slightly higher than the level of our pillars so we dig away some grass to expose the full deepslate pillar.
While doing so, we notice that a lake of water is quite close by! We sleep for the night before starting to fill in the lake with dirt. It would be a shame to get rid of the water entirely though! While working on the lake, we get the idea to connect it to the pond of axolotls to form a nice water feature!
After we complete the digging for the entire perimeter of the house, we make the stream slightly deeper. We ensure that the bottom of the stream also has water source blocks, before digging towards the pond of axolotls. Once we are satisfied with the trench that we dug, we fill it up with water!
Almost immediately, the axolotls start swimming up the stream and play around in the water! We are delighted to see them enjoying their new home. We continue tweaking the flow of water and break down the barrier of dirt that separates the two ponds! As the sun sets, we place our bed down and fall asleep.
To make the area look more natural, we work on digging away the steep edges of grass that surround the water! We fly up to the top of the giant spruce tree to take a look at the stream and our future base. Then, we start removing the dirt and grass that are in the centre of all the pillars!
We are still not happy with how the water stream looks from up close though! We mine away some stone beneath the stream of water to make the changes in height more gradual. We replace some of the stone with dirt as well, and plant some tall grass! This makes the stream appear lush and lively.
Flying up to take another look, the stream is now bustling with activity due to our enthusiastic axolotls! Then, we proceed to strip away all the dirt and grass within the perimeter of the base! Thanks to our Efficiency V Netherite shovel, it is not long before we have a blank slate that we can build on.
A wandering trader visits us, but he carries none of the new blocks! Still, we buy some items from him in hopes that he will sell us some new 1.17 blocks soon. We study the landscape of the plains and notice another lake behind our house!
This gives us an idea to connect this lake to our axolotl pond as well. We could even connect it to the river! Actually on second thought, that would be a bad idea as our axolotls could escape easily! We lay down a palette of blocks for the future base before ending the episode.
