Late-Game Minecraft 280 :: Second and Third Spawning Floors
Above the first spawning floor, we build two more platforms where mobs will be able to spawn! We link the floors to two redstone torch towers so that alternate floors can be activated to flush the mobs to the central collection point. We find that the shaft for the redstone torches is too narrow though!
We craft two redstone torches and glide down to the bottom of the pit! We place down the torch that will power the next spawning floor. Then, we try to create a circuit that links the redstone torch for the first floor to the redstone torch for the third floor!
Using a tower of scaffolding, we place the redstone torches on the chiseled stone bricks! Then, we craft some normal torches to place along the walls of stone as we are going to cover up the redstone wiring. We place some smooth stone for the second layer before flying up to the chests to craft some levers!
We cut some honeycomb from the beehives before flying back to the mob farm! Placing down the levers to control the redstone current, we switch one lever on and activate the water on the first floor to prevent mobs from spawning. Then, we build the platform for the second spawning level!
The sky is turning dark so we sleep in our white bed! We misplace a block of smooth stone and when we remove it, the block flows into lava. Oops! We fly back to the furnace area so we can smelt more stone into smooth stone. Even though we had a Shulker box full of it, we are using up the smooth stone rapidly!
After crafting 44 more spruce trapdoors, we return to the construction of the second floor! We misplace another block but this time we get down to pick it back up! Placing down some water to climb up to the second floor, we check the collection area to ensure that the extra water has not ruined anything!
We complete the second-floor platform and place down more torches for the redstone circuit hallway! Then, we cover up the redstone circuit below with a narrow border of smooth stone. We craft some spruce fence gates to place around the centre hole!
Then, we place down some stone bricks at the corners of the platform! The trapdoors go behind these stone brick corners and they will hold back the water. Once we place down all the trapdoors, we fall into the centre collection pit to pick up another bucket of water!
Using our bucket, we fill up the trapdoor channel with water! We craft some redstone repeaters and make an access shaft to the first level so we can see how we built the redstone circuit! We place the repeaters in the same positions for the second level.
While trying to change the position of the lever, we accidentally fall down the shaft! We fly back out and sleep for the night. We notice that a different redstone torch is affecting the circuit on the second floor, which is not supposed to happen!
To move the redstone torch, we need more space in the shaft for the tower of redstone torches! We bring out our pickaxe and start digging away the stone to widen the shaft. We will need the increased space for all the subsequent spawning floors too, so we fly to the surface and start mining downwards!
As usual, we make sure that the walls of the shaft are composed entirely of normal stone! At the bottom of the shaft, we fly out to the second floor and fix the redstone circuit. We no longer have a place to hang our normal torches so we place down a sea lantern for light instead!
After finishing the redstone wiring for the second floor, we flip the lever and realise that the sea lantern blocks the transmission of current! We fly up to the surface and craft some jack o'lanterns, which are a source of light that also conducts redstone current!
We block off the water before replacing the sea lanterns with the pumpkin lanterns! At the beacon pyramid room, we slay a small slime. We attempt to access the first floor by making a hole in the wall, but water enters the redstone hallway! Shoot!
After sleeping, we replace the redstone that the water had washed away. Making a hole to peek into the first spawning room, it seems that all is well! We try to swim down from the second floor to place back a block of stone brick on the first floor, but it is more difficult than it seems.
We decide to place down the stone bricks for the second floor instead! Then, we start building up the third floor. We also add some torches on the wall and cover up the redstone circuit of the second floor! Flipping the lever, we make sure that the flushing mechanism still works before ending the episode.
