In this video, Mahalo expert Gene Shaw offers some tips regarding how you can organize your Photoshop project.

Beginner Tip 2: Organization
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Organization is a skill that is much easier to incorporate at an early point in your workflow. This beginner tip teaches you several quick and easy methods of staying organized when working with Photoshop.

As you work through a project in Photoshop, the complexity of your image will only increase. If you maintain organizational discipline from the start, you can save yourself hours of stress toward the end.

When it comes to Photoshop, organization primarily pertains to the Layers panel.

1. Always save a layered copy of your work. This means you should save an extra layer as a copy in addition to the print copy of your work.
2. Name your layers accordingly. If you're working on a document with over 50 layers, you don't want them to be called "layer 1, layer 2, layer 3, etc." If you do this, you won't have the slightest clue which layer refers to which part of your image. So, it's always a good idea to name your layers according to the function they serve. If you're creating a drawing of a person's body and each of their limbs is drawn in a different layer, then name the layers accordingly (left arm, right arm, left shoe, belt buckle, hair, etc.)
3. Keep your references images organized together. This makes it easier to refer to them when you need to without disrupting your workflow.
